Anacortes, WA Catholic Schoolhouse

About our Chapter

Welcome to Anacortes Catholic Schoolhouse!

Anacortes Catholic Schoolhouse was established in Fall 2020 at St. Mary Church in Anacortes,
WA, with twelve families. Today we serve twenty-six families from nine different parishes, with
72 students in Pre-Grammar, Grammar, Dialectic, and Rhetoric classes, plus many more in nursery. We
are happy to give back to the parish community that has generously hosted us, by serving a
Lenten Soup Supper, assisting with yard maintenance, volunteering at the Faith on Fire
Family Conference, and annual service projects at the Religious Sisters of
Mercy Convent on Shaw Island.

Our chapter meets in the Fr. Auer Center at St. Mary Church on Tuesday mornings at 8:40 AM.
Our day begins with morning prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by class rotations.

Pre-grammar and Grammar students will learn and review memory work, enjoy hands-on art and
science, snack, student presentations, and chorus. Babies are welcome to stay with their mothers,
while toddlers will have fun in the nursery.

Our Dialectic and Rhetoric students will experience similar topics at their level through
literature, history, Catholic culture, writing, Socratic discussions, and famous speech recitation.
Our upper level fine arts program offers quarterly seminars integrating art, music history, and
culture in addition to hands-on projects in the style of famous artists of the time period. Dialectic
students participate in a hands-on science lab every other week, while Rhetoric students rotate
US government, economics, and logic for high school credit.

We close our class day at 12:00 PM with the Angelus.  All families are encouraged to share
lunch and fellowship together before heading home.
